AuArts Bachelor of Fine Arts 2025

PROFILE

Aja Sequeira is a Canadian visual artist specializing in painting and drawing, holding a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from the Alberta University of the Arts. Her work focuses on domestic environments, employing layered and immersive techniques to create depth, intimacy, and textured meaning. Aja has experience with many mediums such as oil, acrylic, graphite, and watercolour. By investigating gesture, atmosphere, and memory, Aja creates pieces that balance technical precision with expressive mark-making.

Aja has completed artist residencies both at the Alberta University of the Arts and at the Gushul Studio in Crowsnest Pass, where she expanded her research into place-based image-making and developed new bodies of work rooted in landscape, embodiment, and visual storytelling. Her practice reflects a strong foundation in traditional painting methods while remaining open to experimentation, process-driven inquiry, and interdisciplinary influence. Dedicated, thoughtful, and highly self-motivated, Aja brings focus, curiosity, and care to every artistic project.
