Ashley focuses on balancing structure with creative freedom in her art classes. She combines technical drawing 'rules' with a heavy focus on creative concepts by way of various mediums outside of the traditional pencil mark-makings. Thursday teens will often participate in challenges to open up their creative spectrum or push pass creative blocks and there is plenty of freedom for individual projects.

• Glue Sticks
• Drawing Pencils (variety of hardness)
• Markers/felt tip pens (colours and black)
Please see our full list of art materials in ‘additional info’
About Ashley:
Ashley was trained in Calgary by Fine Artist Chris Jordan for six years before graduating from Vancouver Film School in Film, TV, and Cosmetics. Spending ten years in the Film industry was an artful challenge, where her creativity and sense of aesthetic was honed. Today, Ashley harnesses whimsey and darkness to create pieces that focus on women, fantasy, and the delicate eccentricities of human nature. Her style is flexible and dynamic, largely informed by her sense of magic and knowledgeable use of various mediums, which include watercolour/gouache, collage, pen-and-ink, pencil, acrylic, and pastels. Her dynamic and positive approach makes her an excellent teacher for all ages.

Ashley’s Statement:
I work to achieve a harmonious balance in expressing both the nature of whimsy and darkness in my artwork. My work encompasses the duality of the artist, demonstrating the struggle of creating with one's darkness while producing work that is aesthetically pleasing and bright. My moods are my inspiration, they are reflected whether I choose to delve into discomfort or joyful intensity. These emotions impact my choice of artistic medium. Pen and ink are perfect for relaying feelings of sadness and heaviness, while gouache and collage allow for my play with its diverseness of colors and flexibility. I hope when people view my work they are comforted by what they see and know there is beauty in opposing emotions when they are allowed to exist in the same space.
