Christine Bolcsfoldy – Fishfull thinking design

My early years after high school were spent in the Canadian armed forces; first with the Calgary Highlanders, and later working with 1PPCLI overseas. This gave me an interesting first outlet for my creativity, bringing my sketchbook to occupy free time between courses, on workup, and later-on during deployment.
Following my 2008 rotation in Afghanistan, I enrolled at the Alberta college of art and design. After experimenting with a variety of subjects, I began building a collection of aquatic pieces. Their brightness and warmth let me put something positive forward, even when thinking about the darker things people deal with day-today. I found this extremely helpful in processing experiences by myself, and there's something rewarding about the connection feel when I see a smile creep onto someone's face when they look at my work.
I work primarily in acrylic and oil paints on wood surfaces,
Utilizing vibrant colours alternated with layers of glaze medium.
Since graduating in 2013 I've worked as a conservation framer and as a commercial painter. The mentorship there has been of great value to my own practice, giving me a better appreciation for display, finishing, and craft.
