Kate Spencer-Millan

June 2-4

Bio:

Kate comes from an artistic and creative family background and as a child growing up in Stockport, England she would often be found caught up in some form of creative activity. Not surprisingly, Kate has aways believed art was her ultimate calling.

Like life itself, the path of the artist is an ever evolving path, driven by the irrepressible urge for growth and self-actualisation. Forever curious and keen to discover, Kate has explored a variety of artistic directions including jewellery making, photography and painting. Acrylics are her favoured medium and team perfectly with her love for mixed media. Although Kate experiments frequently with a wide range of subject matters, her bold use of colour, energy and mixed media techniques are what identify her. Her current works combine vibrant colour and pattern in both an abstract and occasionally recognizable form.

Although Kate would not describe herself as a landscape artist, her influences frequently come from the beauty to be found in nature, and the human form. Kate hopes people aren't only captivated by her work but also feel a deep sense of connection, either with a whole piece or with some element of it.

Statement:

My family has many creative and artsy people, so some might say Art is in my genes, but it's more than that. Art is a part of me and I've discovered it to be a way to release the inner me. I leave a little part of my heart on every canvas. It is a visual expression of my personality as a free-spirited person which is highlighted through colour ( I LOVE colour) and texture (I also LOVE texture). I hope with the use of bold colour and unique textures that I create images which are both thought provoking and engaging to look at.

Art is powerful and to constantly evolve and explore new ideas and mediums my work will never truly be the same as the last. The possibilities are endless. One of the most exciting things is that blank canvas, ready to be anything. I find influences and inspiration and even motivation from many things in my own life and other lives close to me. Painting is a part of my journey, and it seems the universe has continuously brought it back into life.

Art connects us on so many levels and it can express a lack of words with more emotion and depth at a level everyone can understand. A picture tells a thousand words, as they say.
